Dr. Hembroff has consistently placed in the top 10% of instructors at Michigan Tech, receiving an exceptional “Average of 7 Dimensions” from student evaluation. He has been nominated for the Distinguished Teaching Award at the University multiple times, winning the award one time and being inducted into the Academy of Teaching Excellence.
Dr. Hembroff was awarded funding from the state of Michigan’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program for the 2018-2019 academic year to design and provide a cybersecurity course and labs to secondary education students from Michigan surrounding schools. Students from five different local high-schools, came to Michigan Tech’s campus to learn about cybersecurity for two hours per day, Monday through Friday, from September to May. Students also competed in the state of Michigan’s Governors Cyber Challenge.
Dr. Hembroff and Dr. Peck have developed an outreach education with Henry Ford Health’s Radiology department, where faculty and graduate students from Michigan Tech’s Health Informatics program provide educational seminars and labs in the areas of python programming, machine learning, and natural language processing applications for medical research to Henry Ford’s radiologist, residents, and staff.
